Maui fire crews gain upper hand on Piihana brush fire

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Firefighters on Maui have made significant gains in battling a brush fire in the Piihana area.
Around 4:30 p.m., MFD said all flame activity had been knocked down, and there were no reports of injuries or damages.
Earlier in the afternoon, the fire prompted a precautionary evacuation for one residence along Piihana Road due to its close proximity to the fire, county officials said. As of 4:45 p.m., officials said all evacuations were lifted.
At one point, a portion of Kahekili Highway was shut down from Piihana Road to Kamaile Street.
Multiple units responded on land and by air, and officials estimated the brush fire to be about two to three acres in size. Private tankers from Alpha and Hawaiian Dredging also helped in the fire fight.
